January 1, 1993, safety sensors and learn-buttons were introduced as standard features on all LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman garage door openers. Since then, these garage door openers have been equipped with four different receiver technologies.

The color of the learn-button indicates the receiver technology for your garage door opener. The learn-button is located on one end or side panel of the garage door opener motor cover, on some models a light cover may have to be removed to see it.
